As much as the some on the left would love to tell you that we are not safer now than before September 11th.  The facts, once again, are against the these empty voices.  After America was attacked on September 11th, President Bush vowed to take the fight to the terrorists.  And since that time we have not had ONE single attack on our soil.  (Some people might want to take this discussion to other things Bush has done. But the purpose of this post was to show that since 9/11 we have not been attacked.) With the exception of some crazy anthrax letters from disgruntaled workers and some wacko college students, our nation has not suffered an attack.

Now what have the terrorists been doing?  Well according to the US State Department, from after September 11, 2001 just through 2003…  (Remember this is only a 27 month period.)

Attack on the Jammu and Kashmir Legislature, October 1, 2001: After a suicide car bomber forced the gate of the state legislature in Srinagar, two gunmen entered the building and held off police for seven hours before being killed. Forty persons died in the incident. Jaish-e-Muhammad claimed responsibility.

My office is located near a 7-11 store.  On Wednesday morning, while I was getting a cup of coffee it was amazing to see all the extra copies of the Washington Post near the door that were being snatched up by people left and right.  Many of the customers were buying multiple copies.  The reason… people were wanting to save the special Obama sections in the Washington Post.  I then got to thinking about how different the media is portraying this Obama win vs. past Bush wins.

Bush wins 51% = Country Divided

Obama wins 52% = Country United

Does anyone remember at the beginning of this year, over 12,000 people in San Francisco passed around and signed a petition to rename an Oceanside sewage plant after George W. Bush.  This is just one example of the self-righteous classless disrespect many Americans have shown the current sitting president.

Now I do understand that our current president has an approval rating of 29%, WAY DOWN from his 90% approval rating during the 9/11 events.  Since 9/11 our president has endured relentless attacks from the left while facing abandonment from the right.

Many analysts believe that this is the price our president is paying for trying to work with both Democrats and Republicans.  When President Bush won the 2004 re-election campaign, he reached out to supporters of John Kerry. “Today, I want to speak to every person who voted for my opponent. To make this nation stronger and better, I will need your support, and I will work to earn it. I will do all I can do to deserve your trust.”

No matter what our president did, said, promoted, or didn’t say was met with incredible resistance from both political parties.  The Republicans didn’t like the Harriet Miers nomination to the Supreme Court, and then Samuel Alito was hated by the Democrats.  It doesn’t matter what President Bush does, he is blamed for everything. He is constantly despised by the left and is a disappointment to the right.

But many people are blinded to what should be obvious that many of our country’s current problems have existed long before President Bush ever came to the executive office.  It’s amazing that everyone is so quick to say that President Bush is the “worst” president ever. But it seems that lots of people can’t be bothered by history since the former Democratic President Harry S. Truman had an approval rating of 21% when he left the office… yet he’s ranked one of the most popular president.

The treatment of President Bush from this country is nothing less than a disgrace.  The attacks launched against him have been cruel and slanderous, proving to the world what little character and resolve the attackers and America have. The president is not to blame for all these problems. He never lost faith in America or the American people, and has tried his hardest to continue leading our nation during a very difficult time.

Our failure to stand by the one person who continued to stand by us has not gone unnoticed by our enemies. It has shown to the world how disloyal we can be when our president needed loyalty - a shameful display of arrogance and weakness that will haunt this nation long after President Bush has left the White House.
