Sima Samar, women’s rights activist in Afghanistan: “With dogged persistence and at great personal risk, she kept her schools and clinics open in Afghanistan even during the most repressive days of the Taliban regime, whose laws prohibited the education of girls past the age of eight. When the Taliban fell, Samar returned to Kabul and accepted the post of Minister for Women’s Affairs.”
Ingrid Betancourt: French-Colombian ex-hostage held for six years.
Dr. Denis Mukwege: Doctor, founder and head of Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo. He has dedicated his life to helping Congolese women and girls who are victims of gang rape and brutal sexual violence.
Handicap International and Cluster Munition Coalition: “These organizations are recognized for their consistently serious efforts to clean up cluster bombs, also known as land mines. Innocent civilians are regularly killed worldwide because the unseen bombs explode when stepped upon.”
Hu Jia, a human rights activist and an outspoken critic of the Chinese government, who was sentenced last year to a three-and-a-half-year prison term for ‘inciting subversion of state power.’
Wei Jingsheng, who spent 17 years in Chinese prisons for urging reforms of China’s communist system. He now lives in the United States.
For any rational thinking person, it’s easy to see how Obama won this award. Preview on tomorrow’s awards. Obama wins the NL & AL Cy Young Awards as well as the MVP of the NFL. I guess this means that my Aunt Bertha’s 1st Place Prize for her Peach Cobbler now has more credibility and prestige than the Nobel prize.

I think I am going to be sick! When will this madness end? And what will these people say when it all comes to a climactic ACORN fraud induced impeachment.

Well for a prize named after the man that invented dynamite… then Obama wins that award on the same day that NASA creates a 79 million dollar explosion, of U.S. tax payer’s money, on the moon… wow… It must have just been meant to be! And to think Obama could have stopped that silly expenditure when our country is in deep debt. Hmmmmmm… all of this truly makes so much sense. :/

If anyone thought that the NPP meant anything they obviously forgot that Al Gore won for doing a slide show on global warming!
HAHA this is very true but lets not foget people like Martin luther king Jr and mother teresa Or even the UN or doctors without borders, But i completly agree and think more deserving people could be awarded this prize. Maybe in 10 15 years if Obama did something to bring the world peace he could be awarded the most prestigious waard for peace in the world.
STUPID! 10 days into his presidency and he’s nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize… FOR WHAT? I’ll tell you: nothing. Yes, NOTHING!!!!! Oh no, they say he did all those things, but he did them AFTER he was nominated! REALLY? Wow.
This is a great cost saving effort on Obama’s part!!! Just think, he’s taking 2 large jets to Oslo at a cost of about $3,000,000(3Million Dollars) to accept an undeserved Nobel Prize gift with an approximate value of $1,250,000!!! Makes sense to me. Give me a fricken break! Our guys dying in dumb-ass countries, being killed every day by Muslims, and he taking accolades from countries to whom he apologizes for our American people’s efforts to help everyone. We should be PROUD!! Nothing but bureacratic CRAP!!!!
Careful with what you say A.J. It is not the Muslim religion we are at war with, it is extremists who are the minority amongst the Muslim religion we are at war with. Remember, even among accepted religions there are crazed lunatics who take lives in the name of “Christian moral beliefs”. Don’t be ignorant.
[...] Who did Obama beat to win his Nobel Prize? — BenjaminBradley.com. [...]
The Nobel committee, made up of socialists and a socialists country, has every right to award the person(s) of their choosing.
They said it was because Obama brought HOPE. What HOPE??? Hope of becoming backrupt? Hope of nothing and no one to back our currency? Hope of deserted troops? Hope of socialized medicine? Hope of the most corrupt administration in the history of the world? Hope of legalized pedophilia? Hope of hunger as farms are devastated? Hope of soaring unemployment? Hope of homelessness?
I’m going to try for it next year. I’m going to make a list of all of my good intentions and make sure they get a copy.
I intend to bring about world peace.
I intend to provide free food for the world.
I intend to eradicate hate and greed.
I intend to eradicate pests and pestulence.
etc etc etc
Most everyone is venting their personal feelings and thoughts regardless of principle and respect for peace. Short of damnation they have lost compassion, the very essence of respectability. We should be proud of the courage of the NOBEL committee to believe in the power of hope and their conviction that peace is possible even just for a brief moment of intentions and honest ideas. Heroism does not necessarily equate to NOBEL level nor being a victim of injustice makes one a winner for peace. Frustrations in our present state makes anger less tolerable and believable. But judgement does not finalize future outcome nor does it guaranty emotional chastity and freedom. LET US GIVE THE NORWEGIANS THE RESPECTABILITY FOR THEIR COURAGE AND BELIEF IN THE REALISM OF PEACEFUL ENDEAVORS. Their measure of truth and vision of hope maybe quite different from average tolerance, but a least they are noble with their intentions and admonition. My kudos and respect for all they do, for the sake of HUMANITY. THE WORLD HAS SUCH A BIG ROOM FOR BREATHING FRESH AIR, LET IT BE. Mr.president my personal congratulations. And thank you for this opportunity to wish you well and GOD BLESS. mcp
While everyone is entitled to their opinion, I just wonder why you don’t believe any of the other nominees were more deserving of the Nobel Prize. Maybe in a few years, Obama might be deserving of the award, but the Nobel committee should award the prize based on actual accomplishments, not on possible accomplishments on the horizon. The Nobel committee has made themselves the laughing stock of the world. Even the Norwegians in their newspaper this morning are being polled at 69% say Obama not deserving of award yet.
All I have to say is that finally, the Swedes are right about something. Norway is crazy. (And yes to my Norwegian friends who actually know me… they would agree that Norwegians ARE crazy.)
manny…just shut it. For god’s sake, call a spade a spade….ITS A JOKE AND EVERYONE BUT YOU CAN SEE IT.
I can’t stand the guy. Honestly. Does that give me credibility to say the following? I hope so!
You made this list up out of thin air.
The Nobel Committee has not released ANY names about who has been considered for the NPP after 1956.
Judges were choosing between 205 nominees. Thirty-three are organizations and the rest individuals, the Nobel Foundation has reported. Earlier this week, the names of nominees weren’t officially announced, but certain people and groups are known to have been nominated.
Many of the officials who nominate someone choose to inform the nominee that they have been nominated. So even if the committee doesn’t release the names, it’s very easy to find the names of those nominated.
Mr. Anonymous… Just take a look at my latest post and you’ll see how easy it is to find Nobel Prize nominees. And no, I didn’t “make this list up out of thin air.”

This is just ridiculous. Obama has done nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! How in good conscience can he accept this award? Sure, he talks about “hope” and “change” but shouldn’t he actually DO something before he is given the Nobel Peace Prize? Every past winner of this award should be outraged.
It smells like an illegal campaign contribution to me. Bill Clinton must be blue with envy. Did I hear it right that Obama Bin Laden is going to donate it to ACORN for legal costs? Isn’t that illegal? I suppose if the trial doesn’t implicate him then he is all ways free to pardon who ever goes down. What the hell Shrub W. pardoned Libby to keep him from squealing like the white collar pig that he is. The fact that he got a way with it speaks volumes. Unfortunately it is all in gibberish. So what’s next? TIME LIFE Man of the Year?
As people panic to get their ideas vented in order to disagree, they become blind sighted by limited consideration. As I understand it, Nobel level of accomplishment must preclude a world wide achievement at best, and the benefits must be for a greater number of people . Victims of crimes of injustice and deeds of social values limited to a group of people and religious upbringing, are virtues meant for sainthood quite different from what peace Nobel prize is intended to be.Spade might be spade but world peace is not color blind. Diplomacy is the hardest currency to use, to diffuse tyrannical power in a nuclear surge process , yet it is our only hope for peace, prosperity and a brighter future for our children. Who else could do it? Give it a chance.
When I read the news that Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize, I got a chuckle, thinking, “Are these guys SERIOUS?” Then I remembered that Yasser Arafat became a perverted bloodthirsty terrorist with a Nobel Peace Prize, and how politicized it is. I agree that Aunt Bertha’s blue ribbon for her peach cobbler now has more credibility and prestige than the NPP. Were I on the committee, I would have voted for the Handicap International and Cluster Munition Coalition as a worthy recipient.
It’s high time we ceased allowing people to get away with their falsely claimed “good intentions” and remember that the actual RESULTS of their policies ARE EXACTLY WHAT THEY INTENDED. They aren’t stupid. They know full well exactly what they are doing. And I see Barack Obama trading in the inevitable war with Iran in which our victory would be sure and not too costly if we were to fight it now for a much BIGGER AND BLOODIER (and probably NUCLEAR) WAR that we will have no choice but to fight later with a much more precarious chance of survival. If that war indeed comes about as I fear, Obama will have earned my eternal damnation of him, and Bush condemnation for not taking out the Iranian threat while he had the chance.
Well isnt the person, correct me if I am wrong, dick cheney’s daughter that nominated Obama. I wonder why? Is their something that they r trying to hide? I mean seriously this man does not deserve to win, If the next election a woman becomes president or an hispanic, will he or she get an award too? what makes him so great? his speaches of change? hellooo i am waiting for this “change” the only thing that has change, is we now have a black president, (but seriously who the heck cares?) and the gas prices went down… and.I think thats the only kinda positive thing that has happened.. o wait.. n he is not BUSH !! when is that bastard going to bring the Bush administartion to trial for what happened on 9/11, if he did do that like he said he was going to do than, hell yeah he would of deserved it.. but he didnt.. he is a liar, and i do not trust him.
As far as I understand the nominating process for the Nobel Peace prize, both Mary Chaney and Liz Chaney would be ineligable to nominate anyone. So no, Dick Chaney’s daughter did not nominate Obama.
In order to nominate someone, you must be an elected official in govt or a prior winner of the Nobel prize.
I absolutely praise Mr Obama for his diplomatic prominence wishes to fight for HUMANITY and the ERADICATION of nuclear power and quite interesingly the internal issue in his country the health care policy(a redefined one)but i would vent my personal opinion on the “award”he recieved,i dont feel like he desevered it whilst the are more troops taken to iran 21,000 approx.and he recieves a peace prize it is look down of the prize and what it stands for, even the Mandelas and the Tutus feel underestimated and what criterion did they use” the bielderburg influence” on the decision of who to choose or they wanted to maintain the credibility they want us to see him,in my discretion the man is good but the influence over him is the problem period
Every year, the Norwegian Nobel Committee sends out thousands of letters inviting qualified people to submit their nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. The names of the nominees and other information about the nominations cannot be revealed until 50 years later.
http://nobelprize.org/nomination/peace/
Again, if you’ll read my second post, while the “official statement” is that all nominees are sealed. Every year a majority of the nominees are revealed by the nominee themselves or from the nominating party.
http://www.benjaminbradley.com/politics/the-truth-about-nobel-nominees/
Otherwise, why would we have people using promotional materials saying “Nobel Peace Prize Nominee”.
Example from the press:
http://www.ksdk.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=187108
“Three Cups of Tea” came to the forefront in Clayton Saturday. Nobel Prize nominee and New York Times Best Selling author Greg Mortenson, signed copies of his best selling novel as part of a Big Read Project event. ”
So this whole statement by people that “no one knows who the nominees are” is just plain untrue.
I have reservations about the Obama Healthcare Plan. Will it create bad changes to my loved ones ? How do the positives overshadow the bad aspects?
